The Flaw Trap

Altering company reporting lines or altering the company leadership structure is often the first tried and alluring, quick fix for a need to increase business results and eliminate organizational loss. The flaw is that by changing only structure, you alter all other organizational elements: the work processes, the skills, the decision making, the information and the recognition required. If these interdependent organizational elements are not consciously planned for, structure only changes will have limited short term effect or fail altogether.

Doing work should be fun

Communication should be clear, to the point and timely. It should be clear who makes what decisions. Data that you need to make decisions should be easily available, when you need it. Employees should have the skills they need to do their work. Learning should be ongoing so that you stay ahead of the competition. People should feel appropriately rewarded for doing a good job and for doing the right things.
